One in five individuals is diagnosed with skin cancer at some point in their lives. Many people may not be aware of the numerous areas that skin cancer can affect, like the eyelids. The eyelids are very thin and sensitive. They play a vital role in protecting the eyes, which means protecting the eyelids is incredibly important.
In an interview with KPRC 2, oculoplastic surgeon and ophthalmologist Dr. Mirwat Sami discusses the predominance of eyelid cancer and the need for people to be aware of how susceptible the eyelids are to it.
Around 10% of diagnosed skin-cancer cases occur on the eyelids, which is why Dr. Sami wants everyone to be aware and to take the time to protect their eyelids by applying sunscreen, wearing sunglasses, and being more cautious.
